Who We Are

At CVMA, we believe in fostering a collaborative team environment where all players are integral to the success of the project.  The architect’s role is to take the clients’ tastes and goals and guide the clients through the design and construction process, ultimately creating a home that is uniquely theirs and specific to the site.  We seek to balance aesthetics with pragmatism while celebrating the connection to the outdoors.  We firmly believe that good design can have a meaningful impact on one's life.

Carolyn Van Meter is the Founder and Principal Architect of CVMA.  She originally hails from Chicago and attended the University of Texas School of Architecture only to quickly discover that the physical and creative climate of Austin would be impossible to leave.  Since graduation, Carolyn gained work experience at several Austin firms, most recently with the notable Hugh Jefferson Randolph.  There she led several high-end custom residential projects including a home selected for the 2018 AIA Homes Tour.  Outside the office, Carolyn enjoys spending time with her husband and 3 kids on the greenbelt,  occasionally chasing their "free-spirited" dog.

Carolyn is a licensed Architect in the state of Texas (TBAE #24997)

Testimonials

“Carolyn was attentive, flexible, reasonable in approach and pricing…I’d hire her again in an Austin minute!” - Jim Sherrets, client

“Carolyn did a fantastic job bringing our vision to life for a major remodel and addition to our historic bungalow. People comment all the time that our addition looks like part of the original house, which was the seamless look we wanted to achieve. She was so easy to work with, thoughtful, and provided great value for what we paid her. Compared with other architects we consulted, we definitely felt the most comfortable trusting Carolyn to help us with this project that was so important to our family.” - Anna Hallmark
